Resolution Church officially began with the North Central Conference of the Free Methodist Church endeavoring to plant a church in the Chicago suburbs. After much prayer and discernment the conference invited Mark and Cristie Davenport, along with their three children, to move from Colorado to the growing Southwest suburbs of Chicago in August of 2007. The vision God gave them for Resolution was for an emerging, relevant, and passionate church that would reach people far from God. Resolution held its first “public” gathering at their home on July 27th, 2008. The theme was a Brazilian barbecue and was attended by 93 people. The food was incredible, the kids had a blast, and the adults enjoyed a wonderful Midwestern summer evening.
Of the 93 people who attended, several new families joined our launch team, which worked toward our launch on September 14th, 2008. And what an exciting day it was! God blew our minds, bringing 316 people for our launch Sunday during one of the worst floods in Chicago history!
In July of 2009 Erick and Bekki Ewaskowitz joined the staff at Resolution. Erick served as executive pastor and Bekki came on as the worship leader. Their leadership was a huge blessing to Resolution, and God was preparing both of them and the church for an unexpected adventure. In June of 2010 Erick assumed the role of Lead Pastor as Mark and Cristie sensed God was calling them to plant a new church in South Florida.
In October 2010 (10.10.10) Resolution transitioned to Oswego, IL, and this community has been our home ever since. We have partnered with several local groups to bring Jesus to the community with our hands and feet, hearts and minds.
In June of 2016, then associate pastor Jill Richardson was appointed as Lead Pastor of Resolution when Erick took a position with Triple Threat in Aurora. Jill and her family look forward to this new adventure with God and His people.
We continue to anticipate God doing great things in and through Resolution!
To help people far from God discover a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ
We are not interested in simply being a church IN our community, but a church FOR our community. We are on mission with Jesus to announce and demonstrate God’s Kingdom in the Village of Oswego, the greater Fox Valley, and beyond. We seek to proclaim the good news of Jesus and His Kingdom now, to make and multiply disciples, and to bless our city and world. We also seek to discern how God is already at work in our context and to join Him in that.
We don’t wish to compartmentalize or label people. We value healthy, God-honoring discussion, relationships, service, doubt, and even disagreement. We believe we can reveal God in all we do at work, home, recreation, and church. We prioritize serving our community, especially the “least of these” that Jesus mentioned. We value inter-generational connection and dream of a church where people from multiple generations, backgrounds, and cultures are worshiping and on mission together. Our hope and prayer is that we will multiply disciples, leaders. and churches that have Kingdom impact locally and globally.
Our passion is to live out the example of Jesus as a community on mission. We strive to do this in three ways:
GATHER | UP
Gathering together weekly to worship, hear from God through Scripture, respond by remembering Christ’s death and resurrection through communion, share stories, and celebrate what God is doing in our midst.
GROW | IN
Growing together in several ways. We have extended family sized groups of people who meet regularly for community, learning, and mission. (We call them Villages.) We also encourage our groups of 2-4 who meet regularly for the purpose of reading scripture, accountability and prayer (Discipleship Partners).
GO | OUT
Going out together as sent ones to announce and demonstrate the Good News of Jesus. We partner with local ministries and social agencies such as: homeless shelters, youth mentoring programs, refugee agencies, ministries fighting human trafficking, food pantries, local schools, and crisis pregnancy centers.
Our Core Values
We believe the Bible is true and that biblical teaching is the catalyst for life change.
We believe worship should be passionate and inspire people to examine their spiritual, emotional, and relational condition.
We believe the life mission of every person is to discover their God-given talents and use them to benefit others in the community and build up the Church.
We believe God created people for authentic and caring relationships practiced in genuine community, and that the church is to thrive in an atmosphere of unity, grace, love, truth, forgiveness, acceptance and encouragement.
We believe God calls all believers to intentionally invest themselves in the lives of other people to demonstrate how Christ can transform them and their society.
We believe all people should be free from social, economic, racial, and gender discrimination and the church should work to eliminate these evils whenever possible.
We believe that as Christians we have a responsibility to protect and steward God’s creation by efforts of conservation, recycling, and other green initiatives.
We believe all Christians have a responsibility to use their time and financial resources to support the local church and to assist those in need.
We believe that all believers are called to progress towards full maturity in Christ which includes the desire to live a holy life.
Our Basic Beliefs
Resolution Church joins in the universal church spanning across space and time in affirming the Apostles’ Creed:
We believe in God the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
We believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic (universal) Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
We belong to a larger faith family called the Free Methodist Church, a family of over 1 million members worldwide who are committed to loving God, loving people and making disciples. The vision of the Free Methodist Church is to bring wholeness to the world through healthy biblical communities of holy people multiplying disciples, leaders, groups and churches.
