Settling for Less

The Number You Have Reached . . .
We’re going to talk about Malachi. Who? If you’re looking for it in the Bible, it’s the last book of the Old Testament. This is important, because it means the people who read it were waiting. Waiting for God. Waiting for justice. Waiting for help. Waiting, They didn’t know how long it would take for God to answer their prayers. They weren’t sure they believed in those prayers anymore.

Have you been there? Calling on God and feeling like you’re getting a message that He disconnected? There was a song several years back by the Fray that asked God: “Where were you when everything was falling apart? All my days were spent by the telephone that never rang.”

What do we do in the waiting? What temptations can trip us up and make sure we never get that call? What can help us in those times when we don’t know why God is taking so long? Whatever you’re waiting for, Malachi has some cues for us.

This week: One of the things the people had lost during Malachi’s time was vision. While they waited for their life to be what they wanted, they forgot to look for what God wanted their lives to be. They stopped trying. Anyone else ever felt that way?
